The Shock Doctrine

This from Naomi and her co-director:
“The central idea of my book, The Shock Doctrine, is the use of shocks to exploit people, whether individuals in torture cells or entire societies after disasters. That is such a visual, physical idea that I knew that a true artist could find ways to take the argument and reach people on the visceral level of film. I sent the book to Alfonso because I felt that the future he created for Children of Men was very close to the present I was seeing in disaster zones. I was hoping he would send me a quote for the book jacket and instead he pulled together this amazing team of artists to make The Shock Doctrine short film. It was one of those blessed projects where everything felt fated.”
Alfonso Cuarón adds, “I read the book and realized its importance in factually exposing what lies behind the economic system that has been globally imposed and that is so harmful to humanity and the planet. I called Naomi immediately and told her that I would do everything I could to help the book get read.”
