This is great. I wish there were more citations, though.

You could hardly concoct a more perfect experiment (you wouldn’t purposely because it would be so cruel) to prove the worthlessness of the privitization philosophy than that Malawi case.

Bello is totally right, we have to lay the real blame of the current food crisis where it belongs: neoliberal capitalism. But I don’t necessarily share Bello’s point of view that everyone is coming around and reinvesting in agriculture in developing countries. Rather, especially in places like India and Mexico, but throughout the world, I see Europe and the US and big agro-business is finding new ways to make developing countries totally dependent on the Fortress Europe and the US for food. Take GM crops and their international patents, or FTA’s like Nafta, Cafta, etc… What’s true is that it seems the IMF and World Bank have taken a step back, and it is now countries like the US that are stepping up to the bat in the fight to make the whole world dependent on subsidised US agriculture….
