This story was also picked up by the Vancouver Sun and The Province yesterday. The lack of charges is really surprising, given the massive military-style raid they called in to arrest a handful of protestors, and the number of questions that remain about Langford’s handling of the situation.
A local journalist has filed three Freedom of Information requests asking:
- How many personnel were involved and from which agencies? (Department of National Defense ration boxes were found at the scene. Officers were brought in from 200 km away. As many as 50 police were on the ground around the clock for three days.)
- Who ordered the raid and when? (The operation was thoroughly planned and organized and it didn’t happen overnight as Langford claims.)
- How much did it cost the taxpayers? (Mayor Stew Young said Langford’s share of the cost could be $100,000, and he threatened to recoup that amount by suing the protestors and their supporters.)
- What levels of government gave approval for this raid? (We think it may be connected to the Joint Task Force for the 2010 Olympics.)
Stay tuned, Grillaz!
