Thousands of species on Earth face extinction as our polar ice caps melt and the climate warms beyond repair.
more accurately thousands of species on Earth GO EXTINCT each year as polar ice caps melt at record rates 100 times ahead of scientists’ worst case scenario predictions.
War is pretty unpopular across the U.S. too.
wheh! finally the war isn’t that cool anymore. maybe another couple of decades of failure will actually rouse the merikans to shake their mighty fists in disapproval.
Many are also yapping away about the fate of the environment.
yes, in times of unprecedented global crisis yapping away by politicians and a blissfully ignorant public will surely save us
People are beginning to care about the planet they will be leaving their children and grand kids
heh. grand kids. right…
here you go you poor fuckers, enjoy post industrial planet earth, complete with:
nice safe alternative energy solutions instead of tropical rainforest!
calmer oceans!
and more!
The reaches of U.S. Empire are being destroyed quicker than you may realize, yet the left is still stuck neck-deep in a dark, humorless, perpetual cynicism.
oh come on now that’s a terrible characterization of the left. here on GNN we’re going out waist deep in a drunken, bitter, festive frenzy of spiteful anger and disgust. and we keep it funny, dog.
now break off a piece of ice , put it in a stiff drink and party like its the collapse of industrial civilization

It’s far too early for optimism or even an honest assessment of the impact of the Bush-Cheney years.
The recommended let up in the 24/7 bad news cycle is a psychological necessity and things aren’t all bad, yet anyway.
The Bush-Cheney show isn’t over until they’re completely off the world stage.
Peace,

300 days yet to go.
Then we get McCain for another 4+ years. Talk about being pessimistic.

actually, if i may paraphrase…
most of us humorous types on GNN are celebrating with snied bacchanalian pessimism and sarcastic wit, the ironic demise of the most prolific and reasoning creature to deface gaia and her many minions that we know of yet. think positive on that, my nigga.
on edit: anthony, nice find

Both [Clinton/Obama] are doing their best to position themselves as the antiwar candidate, hiding their military tactics away in the fine print of their policy briefs.

Sure Bush’s Fed has overstepped its boundaries and attempted to “bailout” the credit sector, but hasn’t this whole debacle also exposed the fallacies of neoliberal ethos?

my sentiments as well… quite enjoyed the article even though I found much of it somewhat skewed to my own perspectives on the general idea

the reason i campaigned for nader 2000
a gore presidency would have left the globe too complacent. yes, i still have nightmares.
Anthony really called the McCain presidency in ‘shooting war’, God save us!
Obama is okayish, but this pastor crap is going to be used over and over, leaving McCain a good chance
don’t we all loathe being right?

johnnycivil sez: ‘don’t we all loathe being right?‘
Fucking right we do. It’s what makes us human – our hate.
I’m faelnarr the smiling motherfucker, and that’s my take…

jl, so true. if you cant laugh or cry, youre just fucked or stupid

Then we get McCain for another 4+ years. Talk about being pessimistic.
It ain’t looking so good these days, Hillary just squandered her “Commander in Chief cred,” ducking sniper bullets in Bosnia during a 1996 visit when the “war” there ended in 1995.
Time to put the fork in, she’s baked.
You gotta know that when it comes down to the Obama, McCain head to head in November, all it’ll take is the breakout of some shooting in the Persian Gulf by or directed towards the Iranians, with Admiral William “Not on my watch!” Fallon retired, to sway the electorate towards McCain.
Sometimes no Peace

well put.
yeah, i really did not like this article. no offense to the author but we can’t really criticize corporate media from remaining in its slumber if we’re watering down out situation with the lets make up a bright side of this complete disaster we’re in and dwell on that.
No other president in modern history has done more to expose the dark side of U.S. imperialism than Bush.
sheesh! did we really need to have Bush’s massive fuckupery to expose the “dark side” of US imperialism? as opposed to the light side of US imperialism? how bout having an education system that was even remotely honest about our cuntry’s history and international relations? i learned more about the reality of the united states listening to rage against the machine lyrics in high skool than i did from teachers. we shouldn’t have to wait until our obliviousness, ignorance and apathy reward us with bush/cheneys, endless wars, environmental disasters and on and on and on.

No insults to the author, but I prefer a healthy dose of optimism and pessimism mixed in the bowl, baked at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, then let cool for another 15 minutes. It’s nice to find the silver lining, but it’s also nice to notice it’s in a bag of shit to begin with.

if somebody’s lyin’, right? and you know they’s lyin. can you shoot ‘em?

betta not lie to me, no mo sucka!

Sounds a lot like the after supper speech at the bohemian grove burning of cares dinner
Just before bush gets the most damage in the least time award
It©s the 8 year flush heard around the world
And there will be years more of circling
Before final results are in
Silver lining indeed

We all need to be optimistic. How can we expect anything positive to happen if we dont expect anything positive to happen? It is true that the truth is only a perspective. I agree with the author that the past 7 years have been a wake up call for the world. I have been desperately dissapointed with the worlds reaction so far but in time we will thank this administration for launching pre-emptive wars instead of sneaky “peace keeping” ones which leave the majority in the dark about the real agenda.

And the real agenda is?
When you can answer, I doubt thanking this administration will be on your to do list.

OK mabe “thank” was the wrong word to use but you must be glad that far more people now know. Destruction occurs befor change. I hope this enlarged awareness sowes the seeds of a positive helpful reaction. From all of us.
