Summary:

Israel has always had the legal obligation to ensure that the population’s basic needs are met in areas of Gaza it controls. This responsibility is even greater today, in light of the recent deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories. But measures such the on-going construction of the wall in the West Bank and the closing of the Karni/Muntar crossing, Gaza’s only cargo crossing point, are only exacerbating the poverty in this region.

Human rights organization are also concerned by the discriminatory “Citizenship and Entry into Israel” law which bars family reunification. It targets Israelis married to Palestinians of the Occupied Territories and while it appears to be primarily motivated by demographic rather than security reasons, it impacts severely on basic rights.

Accountability for Israel’s persistent violations of human rights should be a priority issue says Amnesty International. The country’s record of disproportionate use of force against civilians has long been one of Amnesty International’s key human rights concerns and is the subject of a research paper they recently presented before the EU Council . With 29 countries in favor, 12 opposed, Arab countries pass decision that Council inspectors will prepare special report on human rights violations committed by Israel

The United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday accepted a resolution according to which human rights violations committed by Israel in the territories will be discussed on a permanent basis in all of the Council’s meetings.

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN in Geneva Yitzhak Levanon told Ynet in response: “I am very sorry that the Arab group took us back to the dark ages of the committee which passed away due to such behavior.”

Levanon was furious following the special discussion summoned by Arab and Muslim counties in the Council, which only began its work a week ago, replacing the Human Rights Committee – the UN’s previous human rights body, which was dissolved in a bid to establish a body in which countries violating human rights would not be able to serve.

Arab and Muslim countries succeeded in obtaining the signatures of one-third of the 47 Council members in order to hold a special discussion on “human rights violations by Israel in the territories” during the Council’s first session.

In the temperamental discussion, the Arab and Muslim bloc proposed a resolution according to which the Council’s inspectors would prepare a report on the Israeli violations of human rights in the territories…

We think that it is all political. That while some countries believe that Israel doesn’t have the right to defend itselves, they have no problem with Arab countries supporting genocide in Sudan for example.

We simply reject these human rights councils and group as either soft leftwing ideological political entities or national governments playing politics, either western countries eyeing the next big tank export or power station deal from a hoodwinked Arab country, or a western country trying to placate their local Muslim shtoog, or Arabs themselves who are motivated by racism and nationalism.

hey ya buddy—been a while! Didn’t you go enlist yet? Recruiters are standing by—go enlist—forget politics—go enlist. Then you can walk your talk—go enlist!

glacialimprint @ 07/05/06 07:25:48

Enlisting requires, at minimum, a pair of balls. (For males, obviously.) I think our dear friend may not make the cut.

ManusCelerDei @ 07/05/06 07:35:02

Yeah, the balls on his chin don’t count.

Personally I am quite happy the case was brought before the UN. It proves that Arab countries still have a measure of trust in international institutions even when they failed them so often in the past.

There is one institution that will help the Arabs acheive their racist, xenophobic aims of a grand Arabist Caliphate conquoring half the world. It is called the “military”. When all you have are Arab like militaries, you should not go around throw stones at your neighbor.

IsraelForever2 @ 07/05/06 11:15:03

IF2, perhaps you should read what you write. “When all you have are Arab like militaries, you should not go around throw stones at your neighbor.”

What the heck does that mean? That with Arab countries surrounding Israel, Israel shouldn’t throw stones? Makes sense to me.

btw, how’s the enlisting going? Really you should enlist-or are you unwilling to stand up for your beliefs? Just checking. Throw the excuses about money or needing you or training, or anything else to the side. If you believed in what you speak, why not enlist, go spread democracy, protect the people back home, defeat terrorism with action and not words. GO ENLIST

Would someone feed the troll something that’ll make him vomit in the toilet instead of on my post.

Wait I have your Arab Caliphate right here, asshole.
Is that what it’s come to? For decades every time an Arab nationalist comes along who doesn’t kiss the ass of Allah, wants to use oil revenue for his own countrymen instead of lining the pockets of Western oil companies, he is beaten down, abused, killed, disappeared, whatever, by the West or by others working in tandem. For all his bullshit, Saddam was just the latest in a long line. Shall I list a few? Mossadeq, Nasser, Arafat, etc. All the Muslims have left is the Fundies. Which is what you have in Iraq. Was that REALLY the plan? A mini-Islamic State with all the professionals leaving the country? Shit, if I didn’t know better, I’d say the West was trying to set up the Arab Caliphate all on their own.

galcialimprint _What the heck does that mean? _

It means that if you are weak as Arabs are, you should not attack Israel and expect to be rendered harmless. Israel will meet every threat with overwhelming force. That is how you have to deal with these rotten terrorists.

IsraelForever2 @ 07/05/06 19:47:59

What is wrong with a Caliphate anyway? Who has a problem with Christianity as a worldwide institution?

This Caliphate could at last bring about discussion within Islam about the role of Arab countries. Institutions raise questions about representation and agenda.

Why should the 200 million Muslims from Indonesia follow blindly the Salafi view of Islam? The fact is, they don’t. Their heritage and culture are their own and they integrate Islam in their culture, not the other way around.
