What is Covert Action?
When you watch the news, think more deeply about what you’re seeing; and when you read your newspapers, try reading between the lines or wonder about the source or the writer behind the article. Has the article been planted? Is the writer in the pay of an intelligence service?

Intelligence services generally are organized into the following major functional areas:
· Intelligence Collection
· Analysis
· Counterintelligence
· Covert Action
Intelligence Collection is the collection of Intelligence information, secret or otherwise, through spying, interrogation, satellites, etc. If the information is collected through spying or interrogation, it is known as HUMINT (human intelligence). If it is collected through technical means such as electronic eavesdropping or satellites, it is known as TECHINT (technical intelligence). Open-source Intelligence (OSINT) is information gathered from non-secret, public sources.
Intelligence Analysis is the assessment of collected raw intelligence and the processing of it into usable intelligence product that can be used to guide policy and operations.
Counterintelligence has as its mission the prevention of a foreign intelligence service from obtaining intelligence information from one’s own country. If I may add, international drugs trade is the major source of funds for covert actions. It was the case in Beyrouth where it financed the Druze militia, in Afghanistan and Pakistan with the Moujahidine, in Central America with the Contras. Deniability implies independant “untraceable” funding.
Addicts rejoice … you’re patriots.
smoke’em if you got’em!
You do have to realize that the illicit drug trade fuels whole economies. Without it there would a reduced need for law enforcement, military, defence contractors, corrections facilities and their guards, lawyers, courts, parole/probation officers, etc. The interconnectedness of the black hats and the white hats is so strong that there is no way you’d be able to eliminate the crime.
But, like I’ve said before, the drug cartels operate a business that’s wholly based on demand, not supply. Instead of funelling billions of dollars into Colombia to stop the cartels why not funnel billions into rehabilitation for addicts at home? Stop the demand, and you stop the production. The whole War on Drugs is just America exporting the problem to where it really exists: in your own back yard.
er..“from where it really exists.” Crap, I need a coffee…
