Summary:

“It sounded like a balloon had popped but a lot louder and then we all moved to one end of the carriage. There was something on the floor and you could see something had exploded.

“We moved through — they opened the door so we could move through to the next carriage and there was a guy still standing in the carriage.

“And then we pulled into Oval, we all got off on the platform and the guy just ran and started running up the escalator.

“Everyone was screaming for someone to stop him. He ran past me and I kind of stood in one of the alcoves and he ran out of the station. In fact he left a bag on the train.”

Four small bombs hit London's bus and underground train network on Thursday, without causing major casualties, exactly two weeks after bombers killed more than 50 people in the cap

A large part of the capital’s underground train network was suspended, but police reassured the public that the emergency was not as serious as two weeks ago.

London’s police chief Ian Blair told reporters there had been four explosions or attempted explosions but the bombs were small and casualties appeared to be light.

The emergency coincided with a service to commemorate those killed by bombs detonated by four young British Muslims in three underground trains and a bus at morning rush hour, killing more than 50 people and shocking a capital that had hitherto been spared al Qaeda-style attacks on civilians. That attack confronted Britain’s people and politicians with the prospect the country could be nurturing its own generation of the type of Islamist militants loyal to Osama bin Laden who had already inflicted carnage in the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, in Bali and on Madrid’s suburban trains last year.

All four bombers died in the July 7 attacks, leading most people to assume they had been suicide bombers.

Britain’s leading shares fell sharply on news of the latest incidents, but recovered once it appeared that the effect of the latest attacks would not be on the same scale as two weeks…

There are similarities between 7/7 and 9/11. Who gained? In America it was the traders with inside knowledge who traded airline shares and made a killing. In England it was the money traders who dealt in international currencies. I don’t doubt governments have no real idea of what is going on. Presidents and prime ministers are fed a summary bulletin of what they need to know each day and, like us, kept in ignorance of everything else. Cast you mind back to the morning of 7/7 when the world waited to hear what would come from the conference that had pop stars hollering and thousands marching and free concerts to highlight Third World debt. After the London incidents the G8 conference passed unnoticed, and with no change in America’s attitude to various matters including global warming. The biggest story of the year disappeared without trace when those blasts went off.
It is not hard to convince young men they are taking part in an exercise when one is planned. Even the police admit it takes expert help to manufacture the items they wittingly or unwittingly carried.
Who else benefited? Well, the US shady figures behind the scenes looked like failing in their attempt to get the Patriot Act passed into permanent law of the US land. It was a to be a close thing – reportedly as few as half a dozen votes would throw the repressive and unconstitutional evil Act out. So two weeks later we have a similar scenario in London with no serious injuries on the day itself, which US politicians get to see on their television screens. The result – the Patriot Act passed into permanent law. Two birds killed with one stone – and along with more than 50 Britons. Three birds if you add in the fact that the Muslim community are now subservient and bending over backwards to prove their allegiance and shout their innocence.
I have heard the word terrorism all my life but the protagonists usually turn out to be murky figures allied to government agencies somewhere along the line. I genuinely feel sorry for the police who have to investigate these matters while being led along a convenient trail of clues, and who will never be permitted to broaden their investigation into those areas where a few people made a lot of money from inside trading before the incidents, or where dark figures will do anything for a cause that keeps the two red, white and blue flags flying high in the imagination of ill-informed citizens.
I am not suggesting this as a truth, but you can easily stick a bomb on a man’s back and tell him he is part of a threat to press the government into withdrawing troops from the Middle East. He does not have to be told it is real and he does not have to know there are plans for it to actually go off. He may even be persuaded to think he is part of a trial run.
