Summary:

Emery was the primary target, in particular because of his decade-long campaign to end the criminal prohibition against cannabis in North America.

“The Americans targeted me for my political views and activism,” he said. “And now my own government won’t go along with an American-endorsed deal because they want me gone.”

U.S. prosecutors have offered Williams and Rainey jail sentences in the three-to-five-month range and probation in exchange for guilty pleas. Both are mulling it over.

"I was willing, the Americans were willing and all that we needed was the Conservative government to also agree"

A tentative deal between Marc Emery, Vancouver’s Prince of Pot, and the U.S. government over money-laundering and drug charges has been nixed by Ottawa.

Emery says the Conservative administration has refused to go along with a proposal that would have seen him spend five years behind bars for selling marijuana seeds through the mail.

Under the defunct pact, Emery was to plead guilty on both sides of the border and accept a sentence of 10 years imprisonment on the understanding he would serve half, mostly in Canada.

“All that was required for this deal was a rubber stamp from the federal government,” Emery told me late Thursday. “They have, instead, rejected the deal without explanation . . . it is clearly political.”

The longtime cannabis crusader said he originally agreed to the jail time in part to spare his associates and co-accused Michelle Rainey and Greg Williams from prosecution and prison.

Harper’s government just wants to punish Emery. Even the D.E.A. is less punitive than our government. I am just disgusted.

This is laughable. Many Canadian provincial governments are in on weed trade. I know from source that many townships in Quebec (near US border) are number one employers in some small towns. They pay $18CAN to $25CAN an hour for trimming in hydroponic farms.

While many farmers who get caught claim they were pressured into weed culture, the truth is they line up for the cash opportunities involved.

Quebec’s Provincial police has the best airborne detection technology in the world (capable of spotting only 4 to 6 plants) yet they fail to locate major cultures and enforce their policy.

Cold US cash and no word uttered…

marijuana is the gateway drug in America, according to the Bush Admin. i’m almost surprised America caved in.

So sad. I bought some Bubbleberry seeds from Emery a few years back. I had to make an anonymous deposit via wire transfer, with no guarantee that I would ever get anything. A couple weeks later I received my seeds in the mail – they were excellent stock.

I’m looking for ways to help Emery out – any suggestions? He, and his co-workers, are being prosecuted for selling seeds to people like me. I’m not suffering from any serious medical condition, I just like to get lifted. I don’t like the idea of someone going to prison for my lame-ass habit – it really fucks with my high. Did I mention that I’m selfish?
