At least the internet is a free tool for the Red Fascist State. God save Tibet and their people from the torture and rape daily heaped upon them. Tibet must be a free and independent nation. Tibet is not China, no more than Golan is Israel or France is Germany.

"China must resolutely crush the conspiracy of sabotage and smash 'Tibet independence forces'!"

Chinese authorities have issued a list of 21 people wanted for their alleged role in anti-China riots in the Tibetan city of Lhasa last week.

Photos of the suspects were posted on the internet as China continued the crackdown that followed the unrest.

In posting photos of suspects, authorities offered rewards and anonymity to those who helped.

Non-violence has never worked particularly well for cattle.

The Beeb failed to mention that the “suspects” were captured on film — as they participated in the violence.

A witless oversight, of this we can surely be sure.

OPEN QUOTE

China stepped up pressure on the protesters on Friday, releasing photos of wanted suspects who were captured on film in the worst rioting against Chinese rule in Tibet in nearly 20 years.

The report added that 241 police officers were injured, 23 seriously, and 382 civilians were injured, 58 seriously.

“Rioters set fire to seven schools, five hospitals and 120 residences,” the Xinhua report said.

“Eighty-four vehicles were burnt down and 908 shops were looted.”

I think it’s okay to wonder where the Chinese are getting their facts (one should always be wondering about this kind of thing) BUT, more to the point here, is Where do we suppose the Beeb is getting all THEIR “facts”?

OPEN QUOTE

Tibet is largely cut off from the outside world, with foreign reporters barred from the territory.

Even activist groups with long-standing connections to contacts in Tibet have indicated they are having difficulty finding out what is happening in the region.

AGAIN

1. Both the Dalai Lama and his advisor and youngest brother, Tendzin Choegyal, claimed that “more than 1.2 million Tibetans are dead as a result of the Chinese occupation.”

2. The official 1953 census—six years before the Chinese crackdown—recorded the entire population residing in Tibet at 1,274,000. Other census counts put the population within Tibet at about two million.

If the Chinese killed 1.2 million in the early 1960s then almost all of Tibet, would have been depopulated, transformed into a killing field dotted with death camps and mass graves—of which we have no evidence.

The thinly distributed Chinese force in Tibet could not have rounded up, hunted down, and exterminated that many people even if it had spent all its time doing nothing else.

Beijing Olympic torch to be lit in Greece amid Tibet protests

OPEN QUOTE

OLYMPIA, March 24 (RIA Novosti) – The lighting of the Olympic torch in southwest Greece on Monday for the Beijing games is likely to be marred by protests against China’s controversial handling of recent protests in Tibet.

After the Olympic flame is lit in the small southwestern Greek town of Olympia, the ancient birthplace of the games, it will tour Greece before being brought to the Chinese capital, where it will start a relay spanning 20 countries.

Will ya look at that Hu. The NED is going to part the seas for us. Every time they throw one of their little publicity stunts the world will have an opportunity to meditate on how the Will to Excellence must, and systematically does, overcome the petty mischief of paper tigers.

And this year the world’s Will to Excellence will be unfurled in Beijing.

OPEN QUOTE

The torch will be lit at 11:00 a.m. Greek time (09:00 GMT) in Olympia. The relay tour will begin in China on April 1, and will cover 137,000 kilometers (85,000 miles) over 130 days before arriving at the National Stadium in Beijing on August 8 for the Olympic opening ceremony.

China pledged strict security measures to ensure that its segment of the Beijing Olympics torch relay will not be marred by protests similar to the one at Monday’s lighting ceremony in Greece.

Weirdly anti-climactic. But also, somehow, quite fanTAStic.

microdot @ 03/24/08 06:45:48

Honestly though, who gives a fuck about the olympics?

Memnoch07 @ 03/24/08 10:12:32

The same people who give a fuck about excellence.

microdot @ 03/24/08 10:48:35

The same people who give a fuck about watching someone else achieve excellence, whilst they eat fried food and yell at the screen for the gymnasts to get back up and stop whining over a broken ankle…

Truthcansuk @ 03/24/08 10:51:30

I give a fuck about those people.. ‘cus they are me. I love nothing better than a feast of kfc whilst watching young girls bend over.

Memnoch07 @ 03/24/08 10:54:20

It’s a dream we all share, Memn…

Truthcansuk @ 03/24/08 10:56:49

I’m going to make that dream a reality! Beijing 2008!!!!!!!!

Memnoch07 @ 03/24/08 11:00:43

heh…

Truthcansuk @ 03/24/08 11:04:35

OK. It’s true. I don’t watch the Olympics, nor have I seriously ever.

Kung Fu movies is the closest I’ve ever gotten. And they’re not making those like they used to. Except I’m pretty psyched for the new Jackie Chan / Jet Li movie.

microdot @ 03/24/08 15:54:38

Well let’s return the favor and plaster telephone polls in our towns with pictures of China’s politburo. WANTED for … write your own, be creative.

mikecimerian @ 03/24/08 16:57:43

Tibet, the ‘great game’ and the CIA Richard M. Bennett, Asia Times.

Somewhat speculative, but interesting nonetheless.

Szamko @ 03/25/08 09:03:02

mike, that’s not “returning the favor”, that’s adding insult to injury. LOL.

microdot @ 03/25/08 09:04:54

That’s interesting Shazam, because from my POV, Bennett’s analysis is somewhat remedial.

microdot @ 03/25/08 09:11:45

Not to mention downright shy.

microdot @ 03/25/08 09:11:59

Although there’s definitely new juicy info therein. Thanks for the ping. Ave!

microdot @ 03/25/08 09:13:33

But the following should not go without saying :

Supposed representatives of China’s “Muslim Terrorist Cells” are being helled in Gitmo but. Have been informed that they are free to go — because the US MIC quite simply could not come up with any charges. But. They’re still sitting in GITMO because the US is trying to find a “safe” place for them — in FN ALBANIA. FFS.

It’s a coLOSsal load of crap.

As usual.

microdot @ 03/25/08 09:27:45

If there’s any positive outcome from this pendejada against China’s mandate — it’ll be that they really do drop their affection for Washington’s War on Terror like a hot potato from hell.

microdot @ 03/25/08 09:29:54

It sure as hell hasn’t done Musharraf any favors, has it?
