Halliburton Accused of Silencing Gang-Rape Victims
KBR said in a statement to ABCNews.com, “Arbitration is the last step of KBR’s Dispute Resolution Program. The vast majority of employment disputes at KBR, approximately 96 percent, are resolved through this program without resort to arbitration. KBR remains committed to ensuring the arbitration process is fair to all employees.“

A Houston, Texas woman, who says she was gang-raped by her co-workers at a Halliburton/KBR camp in Baghdad, says 38 women have come forward through her foundation to report their own tragic stories to her, but that many cannot speak publicly due to arbitration agreements in their employment contracts.
Jamie Leigh Jones is testifying on Capitol Hill this afternoon. She says she and other women are being forced to argue their cases of sexual harassment, assault and rape before secretive arbitration panels rather than in open court before a judge and jury.
Jones returned from Iraq following her rape in 2005. She was the subject of an exclusive ABC News report in December which led to congressional hearings.
After months of waiting for criminal charges to be filed, Jones decided to file suit against Halliburton and KBR.
KBR has moved for Jones’ claim to be heard in private arbitration, instead of a public courtroom, as provided under the terms of her original employment contract.
Halliburton, which has since divested itself of KBR, says it is improperly named in the suit and referred calls to KBR.
In arbitration, there is no public record or transcript of the proceedings, meaning that Jones’ claims would not be heard before…

I can see this as a part of initial actions, but no contract can legally take away your rights as granted under the constitution if you violate the actions of the good faith of the contract, right?
I mean sure, there are contracts that people use all the time, Drs. in hospitals know that the nurses won’t be carrying firearms, but if the security can’t stop violence, then the employees will carry firearms….
It seems like getting raped on the job, and then having the parent ocmpany cover it up violates the good faith that the contract with this company is assuming, and therefore she can sue em.
It sounds like a heavy handed scare tactic that is solely a function of prissy lawyers and potentially a bought judge.
Maybe, kidnapping an exec from Haliburton and fist fucking him in a container for a few days could bring in some justice.
nah, they love that stuff.
Try shattering a glass rod inside his urethra.
halliburton proud to rake in billions while getting away with murder and rape.
is this an outrage? to you and i of course it is, but to haliburton/kbr this is just business as usually. there is no way to boycott haliburton. there is no way, at present to stop this administration from handing this and other abusive international corporations lucrative contracts while looking the other way at the abuses committed by them. the people are alone in this and many other struggles against what is quickly becoming( already is) a corporate government. the time for talking, marching, protesting, and litigation is long past. only intellignet subversive actions can hope to provide a basis through which the people of this world can stand against against non-entity entities such as corps. my only question is how much will have to be suffered before we tire of the shackles being locked on our limbs?
it would hep if i could spell intelligent. that would be a start.
