U.S. urges more troops for Somalia
Somalia is probably Africa’s worst humanitarian crisis. In just a year, over 1 million Somalis have been displaced from their homes, most of them from the capital Mogadishu. Tens of thousands have died, many of them casualties of a brutal Ethiopian-led occupation that has been accused of horrendous “war-crimes” by Human Rights Watch. Of course, it enjoys U.S. backing, so we don’t have a “Save Somalia” campaign.
Trouble is, the insurgency against Ethiopia’s occupation is popular and courageous. Divisions have emerged within the “transitional government” as well. With potential oil resources up for grabs, regional leaders such as those in Puntland, have struck deals with small foreign companies. The oil majors, seeking to rejuvenate deals signed long ago with the Somali national government, want to prop up the occupation.
Hence we have Condi pleading for “fairly robust peacekeeping forces” – but there is no sign of where these are going to come from.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has called for more peacekeeping troops to be deployed urgently to Somalia to replace Ethiopian soldiers.
She said the US appreciated the deployment of an advance Ugandan force but they “frankly need to be joined soon by other forces”.
The US is offering to help African states who send troops to Somalia.
Ms Rice is in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, for meetings on some of Africa’s worst conflicts.
As well as Somalia, she is holding talks on the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan with regional presidents and ministers.

Just tries to tell the truth.

Time sure changes things.
I recall in the mid ’80s in grammar school they taught us Ethiopia couldn’t even feed itself. We pitied them. Some kids even cried during the videos they showed us of the starving African children. The song “We Are The World” was sprayed all over us.
Now they have fighter jets and are a client state of the U.S. with many there claiming to be one of the lost tribes of Israel. Guess you get what you give.
