Meet ‘The Family’

For some background on this not so new force to be reckoned with in American politics and possibly a newfound respect for the uncanny insight of our GNN founder Anthony Lappe, please read as well this important article reposted yesterday, 10/10/07 on the Alternet.

Thy face, Lord, do I seek:
I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!

Be careful for what you wish, for you are soon to receive it.

Utopian fantasies have long transfixed the human race. Yet today a much rarer fantasy has become popular in the United States. Millions of Americans, the richest people in history, have a death wish. They are the new “Armageddonites,” fundamentalist evangelicals who have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about.

Most journalists find it difficult to take seriously that tens of millions of Americans, filled with fantasies of revenge and empowerment, long to leave a world they despise. These Armageddonites believe that they alone will get a quick, free pass when they are “raptured” to paradise, no good deeds necessary, not even a day of judgment. Ironically, they share this utopian fantasy with a group that they often castigate, namely fundamentalist Muslims who believe that dying in battle also means direct access to Heaven. For the Armageddonites, however, there are no waiting virgins, but they do agree with Muslims that there will be “no booze, no bars,” in the words of a popular Gaither Singers song.

These end-timers have great influence over the U.S. government’s foreign policy. They are thick with the Republican leadership.

Small town, working class from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. 1990 went to work for the MDOC; the very forefront of the U.S. Prison / Industrial Complex. Learned there, the hard way, that if I wasn't one of them; "they" would be pit against me. ...

These Armageddonites should watch Zeitgeist . The Biblical mentions of the “end of the world” are really mistranslations of the pagan acknowledgment of the passion of the eras through the procession of the equinoxes. Fundamentalist Christian’s don’t realize they’re worshiping a euphemistic pagan sun god.

well, when these Christian and Muslims Armageddonites meet up in heaven (assuming they believe that they go to the same heaven, haha segregated heaven) they are going to hate each other. But maybe that’s also what God wanted. The planet will be free of people to pollute it, and the people who caused much of this disaster will get stuck into a telephone booth sized Heaven.

here’s the real reason “the age” is rapidly coming to an end:

dionysus @ 10/14/07 14:12:37

Bunker syndrome. Visible sign of people not capable of dealing with their own death so they have to pull down the world along with them. I’d even go as far as to say they aren’t individuals in the psychological sense of the word.

mikecimerian @ 10/14/07 18:45:13

Hmm armageddonites…global warmingists. Seems like on both ends of the spectrum people are telling me this world we love so much just might kill us.

mercenary @ 10/14/07 21:06:13

dionysus- I think your video brings up very good points, and I think he’s largely right, but just too far optimistic. I don’t think a heaven like utopia is possible, becuase technology is largely allowing rich powerful elites to control the world and the way we see it. Any group that wants to form a cabal and abuse technology can, that is the simple nature of technology. I also think that the negative side of technology will rear its ugly head in a way we will not be able to handle.

Unaccommodated @ 10/14/07 21:24:16

I think you’re right, technology is promoting freedom as well though, such as the internet being used for free communication and the way the police state keeps getting caught on camera now that cell phones are also video recorders. I think we’re going to a much worse place, but I hope that once it really starts to chafe, people will realize that there are consequences to ignoring politics and substantive issues, and wake up and get involved, hopefully in time.

A negative ‘singularity,’ where a police state takes over and becomes self-reinforcing is possible, but so is a ‘positive singularity’ where goodness and diversity expands exponentially in a chain reaction. If people ever understand, collectively, that we have and will increasingly have the technology for everyone to live comfortably and work exponentially fewer hours for the same returns, we will enter a positive singularity; as toil is reduced, people will have more time, energy and resources to invest in being involved in politics and community, and the goodness cycle will reinforce itself. I don’t know if we’ll get there, but my guess is that most people won’t pay any attention to anything until they reap some of what they keep sowing.

The idea of “judgment day” or “Armageddon,” that it will come down to a final battle between those working for a negative and those working for a positive singularity, I honestly don’t think it’s that far-fetched. There’s going to be a singularity of some sort one way or another, and it really will be ‘the end of an age.’

Word

The coming end of the oil age now dictates that there will be a downsizing.

Either of the legitimate demands of the many, or the exorbitant demands of the few.

The fact that those in control of U.S. domestic and foreign policies haven’t laid the groundwork for a smooth transition to address the demands of ‘Peak Oil’; but have instead charted a course in hopes to prevail in this man made ‘Armageddon’ like battle for control of the remaining material wealth and economic power is indicative of the inevitability of armed conflict abroad and domestic oppression.

Bang or whimper, there simply aren’t sufficient resources for continued economic growth sufficient to maintain the current lifestyles and future aspirations of more than 6,500,000,000 human inhabitants.

It is those now riding highest that have the furthest to fall.

It’s been a common criticism of religion in general down through the ages that, when pressed for details of the afterlife, it never fails to offer visions of hell in great detail but fails miserably to dream up a heaven that any sane person would want to go to…

Truthcansuk @ 10/15/07 12:20:32

You need a visit with a Jehovah’s Witness.

They don’t believe in a literal Hell, the Rapture, nor in Heaven.

They do however believe that following the Battle of Armageddon, the earth will be transformed into a Paradise Earth and the obedient and believing humans that remain will live happily forever in a state of mortal perfection.

You too can live forever …....

Peace,

Bush: “I’ve told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon,”

No F’king knowledge alright?

Better fry their brains, or burn their books.

Newsweek: The world’s most dangerous nation

Somebody is for moving up the time line.

Nothing like a really bad day on the market, after a 367 point drop on the Dow last Friday for instance, to get the chicken hawks out beating their chests and their subservient press to take to the war drums.

So now they’re drumming up support for a U.S. intervention into Pakistan.

A prudent military move for the U.S. would be to secure only southern and coastal Iran, as the Turks sweep into Iraq from the north, allegedly to suppress the Kurds, but as a NATO ally to prevent the possibility of an Iranian ground-based counter offensive into northern or eastern Iraq as U.S. combat forces secure and occupy the Persian Gulf coast. This would tie the ground based forces of the “war on terror” into one long chain encircling Iran extending from Iraq to Afghanistan, “supporting” the existing regime in Pakistan to “stabilize” this already gone nuclear Islamic Republic.
