Did the U.S. Senate Just Authorize Force Against Iran?
Republished from Fox News (Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation) via Common Dreams
WASHINGTON — The Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a measure sending another rebuke to Tehran, this one aimed at sending a message to the Islamic regime to end military tactics targeting U.S. forces in Iraq.
The vote came one day after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told international leaders gathered at the U.N. General Assembly that Iran only seeks a peaceful nuclear program, and said that the conversation on the Iranian nuclear program “is now closed.”
The Senate, showing it was not convinced by Ahmadinejad’s proclamations, approved the nonbinding measure on a 76-22 vote. It was sponsored by Sens. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and Joe Lieberman, D-Conn.
The measure — an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill under consideration in the Senate — is in response to growing concerns over Iranian support for insurgent activity in Iraq. Military officials say Iranian weapons have been discovered in insurgent hands, and U.S. officials have captured agents with alleged Iranian ties.

World powers delay Iran sanctions
Foreign ministers of the United States, Russia, China, Germany, France and Britain said on Friday that a new decision on Iran would depend on reports by the UN nuclear watchdog and a European Union negotiator.

That’s the first time I’ve ever gotten a good look at Lieberman. I’ve sort of always just brushed him under the carpet. All I know really is he’s a Mutant Ninja Militant Zionist.
Let’s see what das wikie can cough up :
Lieberman never served in the military. A spokesperson told the Hartford Courant in 1994 that Lieberman received an educational deferment from the Vietnam War draft when he was an undergraduate and law student from 1960 to 1967. Upon graduating from law school at 25, Lieberman qualified for a family deferment as he was already married and had one child.
Lieberman has supported gun control measures and has received an “F” rating from the National Rifle Association.

What do we think? Shall we nominate him for a Nobel Hypocricy Prize?
On Wednesday The US Senate ‘Approved’ a plan to limit the power of Iraq’s central government and give more power to its ethnically divided regions.
Maliki promptly rejected it.
The US Senate should maybe worry a bit more about what happens to their credibility after they wax eloquent on a power trip and then find themselves laughed out of town. It ain’t going to help them with their investments.
Or their creditors
Silly rabbits.
Seeing stuff under beds like that.
reminds of the censure of the North Vietnamese government after they kicked out the French…or better yet, after the Communist took over Nicaragua
Those were both before the internet and 483 trillion USD insolvency. HEY! Did you see Danny deliver The Goods at the UN General Assembly?
OPEN QUOTE (from the ABC piece linked above)
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega accused the U.S. of imposing a worldwide dictatorship and defended the right of Iran and North Korea to pursue nuclear technology in a speech Tuesday before the U.N. General Assembly meeting.
Ortega, who took office in January, said little had changed since he last addressed the world body as the Marxist leader of Nicaragua’s Sandinista-run government two decades ago.

I always thought Joe Lieberman was a prick.
The highlight of Lieberman’s term in office, in my humble opinion, was when he took that courageous stand against video games. Video games make people violent, dontcha know.
Here’s a golden quote:
“This relatively small but highly popular minority is not just pushing the envelope,” said Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Connecticut. “They are shooting, torturing and napalming it beyond all recognition and beyond all decency.”
What’s he talking about? Can’t be neo-cons, they’re not popular. It’s video games! Damn your infernal joysticks!
just look at that envelope
