The Enemy Of My Enemy...
Ex-insurgents, former combatants with ties to Al-Qaeda, failed Iraqi police officers with less than sterling backgrounds…
Sounds like a who’s who of contestants to see the inner workings of such fine establishments such as Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib, correct?
No.
Meet America’s newest ally in the war on terror, the Legitimate Resistance Force (or the L.R.F. if you’re acronym prone). I’m certain there is an emphasis on the word Legitimate; once more lending credence to the old adage that the enemy of my enemy is my friend… Provided they continue to fire their weapons in the proper direction, of course.

Dalli Abbas, Iraq – In the pursuit of an elusive enemy the US loosely labels AQI (Al Qaeda in Iraq), US Green Berets and soldiers in this remote corner of Iraq have enlisted the help of a new ally that they have christened LRF, the “Legitimate Resistance Force.”
It includes ex-insurgents, police dropouts with checkered backgrounds, and former Al Qaeda-linked fighters – all united by a desire to rid Diyala Province of the network’s influence, say US officers.
“A lot of them are former Al Qaeda operatives … but when they saw the stealing, murder, and terrorism, they realized it was not the way forward for Iraq,” says Maj. John Woodward of San Antonio.
But the risks of such a temporary solution are high, say critics, and the plan could foster new, powerful militias outside the control of the Iraqi Army. It’s a strategy that also threatens to further fuel sectarian battles as LRFs are largely Sunni, posing a major threat to Shiite militias.
So far, however, it is too early to judge the effectiveness of this new group, but its creation clearly demonstrates a desire by the US to look for grass-roots solutions amid increasing frustration with the combat…

Oh yeh, let’s heal that rift with the Saudi’s and presto. FN LA Times. Either that or the Saudi’s gave in on a major bargaining point. Everyone keep your eyes and ears on the ready.
We might need an insider from Royal Dutch Shell to fill us in.
“Posing a major threat to Shiites indeed”. Not to mention Iran. We certainly don’t want to stop “fueling sectarian strife” — what with the oil labor unions threatening to go on strike and the Sadrists rejoining Parliament as the whole kaboodle gets ready to go on vacation.
What else does LRF stand for, I wonder — given what we know about the MIC’s sense of humor?

Take your pick. They all work just fine.
And then there’s the catchy Local Retard Force. Which is what the local grunts from West Virginia will end up insisting it means. (I’m from West Virginia, so I can say stuff like that.)
And, now that I think about it, that’s probably what the 5-stars started off with too.
Local Retard Force.
bwahahaha… note: this force is comprised of members that have already run from one militant group or another… so, i suppose we arm them and watch them run away again. good idea
One thing’s for sure, the Corporations are definitely fresh out new ideas.
This kind of compromise is the first step toward setting up another corrupt and cruel regime. One probably worse than Saddam’s.
Of course, they don’t want to just leave it up to the Sunni’s. It’s important to get the Shiites off their high peace horse . . .
In cold blood: Sunnis feel the heat
so is this an attempt to legitimize something that won’t actually sound legitimate? Like calling it a “Safety meeting” instead of “hitting the bong in the closet”
essentially these men will be performing some soldierly and some police duties and they are former soldiers and police, or former terrorists. Can one be a “Former” terrorist? what the hell?!?!?!?!?!?
lol, that reminds me of an old friend of mine who nearly everytime he’d run into me at school he’d ask me if i wanted to go read books, he’d be like, comon ben, cut class, let’s go read. of course, that’s code for smokin weed, but it was funny.. there were a couple times where someone nearby would be like, what are you gonna go read? and we’d bust out laughing, and be like, “mann, we’re working on this really good book”. lol
Sure someone can be a former terrorist. Isaeli had many former Irgun cell leaders as Prime ministers.
