I just got a call from my wife who teaches 10th grade English in Santa Ana. She just reported seeing dozen of kids s from her class ditching. Typical for a Monday. They go ‘kick-it’ at a friends house who has already dropped out of school to baby-sit one of their anchor baby siblings. So they sit about getting loaded and pregnant continuing the cycle.

What a waste of young minds.

If this country made even half an honest attempt to make these people feel like they are a part of our culture (Free language programs, education programs geared to new immigrants) they wouldnt’ be skipping class. Why would people go thougth all this BS to come to this country? And just because they come, what, should they be ever so thankful for it? If you think that what they are doing is a waste, why not focus on what can be done to make the situation better?

At any rate, most of the kids ditching are the hijos of parents who risked so much to get to work here. They probably dont value education as much as strong social skills, which they see their kids learning.

I agree it is a waste of young minds, and unfortunately there arent enough fast food jobs and mall opennings to keep em all employed. At some point either they will have to learn some skill, or we are going to see a HUGE rise in crime over the next 20 years in the USA.

And it isnt just hijos of latin americans either, the entire lower classes (poor) are having children that just have no respect for education in any form. At least the latin american children are bi-lingual.

Not whatever – I just asked the wife about the language classes I see being taught the nights I go to her school to help out with her 200+ students grading and lesson planning. Yes 200! The people there are kids and mostly adults getting free english night classes and many don’t even have legal immigrant status. And immigration programs; we’ll I can’t speak to all schools in US or even California, but classes are taught in many languages to help transition kids into mainstream education – it’s always been that way here – I rememeber Spanish and Japanese at my schools.

In addition to the free child care for students and x3 free meals a day at the at risk HS my wife teaches at, there are several programs taylored to kids of all apptitude levels – college prep, advanced placement, special needs et al. Even 1-on-1 Special-Ed councsilers for the brain damaged kids of druggie / ex-druggie parents. And if these kids get good grades – free ride all the way through college. The Gov throws money at these schools; and children of non-legal residents. My Son’s school doesn’t get any free meals, or free child care – nor do they, get this…FREE COMPUTER AND TUTORING LAbS until 9pm at night while the parents work.

Yes, for all these things they should be thankfull for, but the social skills Tyrecian is talking about are the counter-culture magnet and alure of the under-ground gangster economy perpetuated by an influx of illegal immigrants. They are at odds with the positive aspects of American mainstream culture. They smuggle in cheap labor and create endentured servants, drug mules, sex slaves, anchor babies, withdaw their kids from school to babysit more babies that the Gov pays them $600- each for (wellfare) and who knows what else.

Firstworld, there used to be another like you, we called him Izzy. Have you stopped to consider that the texas, new mexico, arizona and claifornia borders lie well within Mexico? Those states were stolen from Mexico in a war as illegal and trumped up as the one america is currently in. Brown skinned people own this land. California fought for it’s independence from Mexico and won – calling itself California Republic. It then decided to join the USA. The Mexicans who fough the Californians who chose to stay were allowed to keep their land and their offices if the pledged allegiance. What happens to brown people who sneak north in to Mexico? They are treated as felons and worse.

The High Schools – there’s always room for improvement, but learning to read and write, language skills, math and science isn’t a bad thing. You should try it.

Let’s put that into perspective. It wasn’t exactly a heroic campaign of liberation. According to Wiki, in late 1845 a small U.S. army detachment under John Fremont entered California, which was then home to around 1500 non-Indians (after 80 years or so of European prodding around the coasts).

A few months later, in June 1846 – after the U.S. had declared war on Mexico – 30 trappers seized the Mexican garrison at Sonoma, presumably well aware (on both sides) that Fremont was close by. The California Republic was declared on June 15. By June 23, Fremont had entered Sonoma and California became part of the U.S.

By the way, if anyone has a good legal case, it is descendants of the Indian tribes who were dispossessed after Europeans moved into California (although displacement happened much faster after California was integrated into the U.S. economy).

Indian tribes in California are doing great – born on a reservation and you’ve got not only Federal money being thrown at you, the tribes are making bank with gambling. I wonder how the natives are treated in Mexico and Latin America? Not so good; they are coming here to Califonia. Maybe I should sneak on to a Indian reservation with my wife and have a kid. If we don’t get shot first, I wonder if the anchor baby get some of that casino or Federal money?
