Climate ups ante on 'Doomsday Clock'
The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is an eloquently serious institution that publishes political, philosophical and theoretical pieces as well as scientific research and summaries. It established the “Doomsday Clock” in 1947 and the London Times provides a time line of the changes that have been made to our march towards doomsday as shown by the clock set up by the prestigious scientific journal.
Yahoo’s blurb provides other good links to this story, which highlight the fact that this is the first time that the “clock” has figured into the Bulletin’s assessment of doom due to climatic environmental factors.

WASHINGTON – The scientists who mind the Doomsday Clock moved it two minutes closer to midnight on Wednesday — symbolizing the annihilation of civilization and adding the perils of global warming for the first time. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which created the Doomsday Clock in 1947 to warn the world of the dangers of nuclear weapons, advanced the clock to five minutes until midnight. It was the first adjustment of the clock since 2002.
