Israeli Think Tank Says Military Force Needed against Iran

An Israeli think tank director said Thursday that the international community must use all diplomatic means to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons but that military force ultimately will have to be used.

“Time is working in Iran’s favor, and barring military action, Iran’s possession of nuclear weapons is only a matter of time,” according to Dr. Tzvi Shtauber, director of the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv (formerly Jaffe Center for Strategic Studies).

He said the diplomatic options should be exercised so that politicians can say they had no choice but to use force. Dr. Shtauber is a former Israeli ambassador to Britain and former head of strategic planning in the Israeli army.

Avigdor Lieberman: Ban Iran from UN

In a harsh letter written to the incoming Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman demanded that the membership of Iran in the world body be revoked because of the continuing calls made by its president for the destruction of Israel.

“I call on you to act now, before it is too late. Revoke Iran’s membership in the United Nations, pressure the Security Council to impose the harshest and most extensive set of sanctions the world has ever seen, and halt Iran’s progress towards nuclear weapons,” Lieberman wrote in his letter.
